Shot these over the chrono and into my "test subject" which sort of loosely represents a shot to the sternum, including 4 layers of denim and "skin" before it passes through the sternum, backed up with "calibrated" wet-pak.

Please note this is nothing like shooting through denim into 10% gel and is much harder on the bullet. I note that perfectly placed shots are typically hard on bullets.

I'm not suggesting this is a better system, just info I am interested in.

Load-----------------3.5" Vel--5" Vel- expansion---ret wt
CCI .22 LR 36 HVHP 1089 (6")-------------.28"------34 gr.
Rem. .38 +P 158 LHP.. 804 (2")-------------.42"-----153.9gr.
Win. .38 +P 158 LHP.. 796 (2")-------------.43"-----154.6gr.
Rem. .357 125 JHP----1373---1407-----------.56"------89.2gr.
Horn..357 125 CD-----1225---1281-----------.45*------25gr*
Horn. C.Dty 135------1244---1276-----------.53"-----131.9gr.**
Barnes .357 140 TX---1295---1321-----------.40------138 gr.
Win. .357 145 S.T.---1150---1204-----------.42------127 gr.#
Aguila .357 158 JHP--1148---1168-----------.55------149 gr.
Geco .357 158 JHP----1145---1152-----------.56------148 gr.
Lapua .357 158 JSP---1231---1245------------NA-------NA--##

An interesting side note is that the .22 LR "controll load" penetrated almost exactly to the same depth as the Remington .357 125 gr JHP fired from a 5" barrel. The .22 stayed point on and expanded a little, the .357 tumbled after a while and lost a bunch of weight.

*Hornady Critical Defense 125 gr lost core (did not find it)

**Hornady Crit. Duty 135 was a perfect mushroom and did great!

## Lapua JSP went through the hole stack - not recovered but big hole so it did deform some - this will be my carbine load! (I've got 3,000 rounds of the stuff).

# Win. Silver tip was mangled but did not really "expand" and it tumbled.

Bottom line, Hornady Critical duty will become my .357 load of choice, but the Geco and Aguila 158 hollow points are really good and I would definitely carry them. For some reason the Geco is the most pleasant to shoot of all the above loads - but I still would not want to shoot it in a 2.5" Model 19!

Just ramblin'

Currently own 3 snubs-two stainless in .357 and a Smith 442. All three loaded with Super Vel 90gr jhp.
